Lately I've been watching a lot of documentaries in my First Year Seminar Class. I'm not complaining of course. Today we watched a documentary about "white privilege" entitled White Like Me. The show was definitely controversial because of the specific topics it displayed, but it was a great film, overall.

The documentary is based off of an American writer and anti-racist activist named Tim Wise. Because Tim was white he never truly understood how it meant to be treated differently since he fell under the white privilege. Furthermore, even his parents were not comfortable with discussing the differences of race with him or even allowing him to attend a predominant black school.

Throughout the documentary, Tim journeys onto testing his white privilege by socializing with different races; especially African Americans. He then begins to express how racial privilege depicts the lives of Americans. How? This is because he realizes later in the film how he was treated differently as a white male compared to other races such as blacks.

Though I've truly never experienced a moment like Tim, it still amazes me he was able to showcase the differences between the races during his time. Above all, I was very interested in this documentary.
